The 08.08.08. Thing

What's with this series of numbers - 08.08.08? While my blog posts for today says it's a Thursday, in reality, from where I am pounding my mini keyboard, it's already a Friday, 08.08.08. There seems to be a never ending love for this series of 8's, and I've heard of how much "noise" it was making, the moment we welcome the year 2008. And the biggest and most anticipated event of all, in 080808, is the Beijing Olympics. Ok, the connection between the date and the event, I understand - after all the Olympics is gonna be held in China, and Chinese are known to be great believers of the number 8 so it's but fitting to start the most lucky date with a highly anticipated event. Everyone considers the number 8 to be lucky, the symbol of infinity, they say...Lucky enough perhaps, making many engaged couples to book the date- 08.08.08 to be their wedding dates, one year in advance...Wow, what a preparation! I know a former office mate, also joined the 080808 bandwagon, and is getting married this day. Another good friend of mine, is not so much a believer on the dates, but her fiance is, was not lucky enough to book for Aug. 8, so they chose the closest 08 date instead - Aug. 18..lol! Oh, well, there's no harm in believing, they say, and I really do hope that the date would bring luck to all the Filipino athletes competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.... and to the couples getting married today, including my former office mate and the one who is getting hitched on the 18th, may they be filled with luck and a lifetime of commitment and wedded bliss.... =D

I Miss...

Everytime my Ma comes for a visit, I would always end up missing and texting my Pap, who is left in our hometown - leading quite a tedious and hectic job. I got so caught up on my conversation with him that after he told me he was gonna sleep already, it made me realized that I haven't talked to him in a while. I missed our funny and serious conversations and remember the days when we were much younger and it was easier to cuddle up in bed with him. Now since we're 12 hours apart, will have to do with voice and text messages.....Somehow I get to maximize this so called Alltxt mode....hehehhe.....Other than my Pap, here are some of those that I miss back home.....

My Besftriend C - whose leading quite a simple and contented life in the province. I haven't seen her for more than a year. I miss our girl talk..lots of girl talks. She was the only person whom I could tell my secret back in college and we were inseparable. Partners in crime, as they say....hehehe..

"Gay time" and coffee with my equally flamboyant friends L and Wes...L and I are female gays while Wes is a certified "green queen"....hehehhe....I sure would like to catch up with them....

My two bus mates S and H, who were my companion in trying to ride the last trip home to our town.....Sigh....

The perfect cone of the Mayon Volcano that is the backdrop of my university...

The rush deadlines on the school paper even if it means eating your lunch while it's still in the plastic and only with your fork and spoon --no plates.....Still it was fun.

The gallons of ice cream that we would stuff ourselves with while we were cramming on school paper publication....

The highfalutin words of my former English professor Ms. D..hehehe...the intelligent girl that she is, I sure learned a lot from her....

The soccer field where I would normally catch a glimpse of my long time "crush" R.....and

Jaxtr!

Imagine being able to call and text for free through your PC. For someone who is both a voice and text addict, this comes in handy especially at times when you ran out of load credits and there is no available retailer that you can load up. I remembered being sent an invitation by two of my YM contacts, to register on this site called Jaxtr, some few months ago. At first I only registered to it out of respect for the one who sent me the invite but when I tried sending a free text it really works. It's for yahoo users so if you already have an account, you just need tot log in and pump up your profile. This morning, I was able to use it again, because I ran out of load credits and the retailer nearby was out. It's like those social networking sites where they can record who viewed your profile etc. and still you get to control who you want to add as friends. You can even add all those in your YM and if they register as well, you can call them for free too. Cool isn't it! Try it!
